Mahindra has been going the extra mile to make the upcoming Thar another cult classic and in doing so Mahindra confirmed that the carmaker is working on an automatic variant for the diesel Thar which had already been spied in India prior to the announcement. The 2020 Thar will feature the upgraded version of Mahindra’s 2.2-litre diesel engine that’s likely to develop 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque while the 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine will generate 190 bhp of power and 380 Nm of torque.
Both the petrol and diesel Thar will utilize a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra will offer the automatic Thar with a four-wheel-drive powertrain as well. The new Mahindra Thar won’t come cheap with the starting price likely to go beyond the INR 10 lakh mark when it debuts later this year.
